THE CAST OF ‘POSE’ REACTS TO THEIR HISTORY-MAKING EMMY NOMINATIONS

pose_750x422The cast of Pose is fully aware that their show got nominated for a bunch of Emmys today, and they’re really, really fucking excited, to say the least.

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday that Pose, the Janet Mock and Ryan Murphy-produced period ballroom drama now in its second season on FX, had received six nominations at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, which will air live from Los Angeles on Sept. 22.

“We just got nominated!” said Pose star Mj Rodriguez on Instagram Live shortly after the news broke. “We going to the Emmys, y’all. Can you believe that?”

The series is up for half a dozen awards, most notably Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Leading Role for Billy Porter, who is now the first openly gay Black man to be nominated in the category, Deadline reports.

“Ahhhhhhh,” wrote Porter in an Instagram Story post following the announcement. “I’m screaming.”

This is the first year that Pose has been eligible to be nominated at the Emmys, which purport to award the best of what’s on TV. The series had previously been nominated at the 2019 Golden Globes for Best Television Series — Drama and Best Actor — Television Series Drama for Porter.

“We are now part of an Emmy-nominated show, bitches!” said Pose star Dominique Jackson on Instagram Live shortly after the news broke. “Trans women and men of America, of the world, we got this. I love y’all.”

While not the first series to feature trans actors playing trans characters, Pose boasts the largest trans cast in television history.

“Congratulations, Stephen and Janet!” said Pose star Indya Moore on Instagram Live not long after the nominations were announced. “We winning that shit. I’m gagging! I love y’all so much. We got nominated!”
