If you were worried about getting another edition of RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-Slay Spectacular, you can breathe easy for now: it looks like RuPaul has another set of holiday plans in store. Welcome to the RuPaulidays.
“How cute are my Old Navy jingle jammies, y’all?” RuPaul posted to Instagram Monday. The caption went alongside a short ad slot featuring RuPaul for the brand. “Toldja we were cooking up something special for the RuPaulidays. More to come!” More indeed.
Looks like Mama Ru has inked a new partner this season in Old Navy. For the company, the star has re-recorded her track “Hey Sis, It’s Christmas” — which she recently re-released in an EP — into a fashion and socially-distanced conscious set of jingles. The songs have been spread across a selection of ad spots — we count three that we can find, hocking everything from masks, to fleece, and holiday cheer overall. This is what all of those maxi-challenges have been preparing the contestants of RuPaul’s Drag Race for.
Ru not only sings the jingle but also appears in every ad, which seems set to air in both Canada and the U.S., in both English and Spanish — well Ru speaks in English throughout but the voiceover at the end switches.
The partnership seems to have kicked off a little earlier this month with an election-appropriate post. Less than a week ago Ru posted that Old Navy was paying its employees to work the polls on Election Day, and encouraged followers to go out and vote. Ru has long been patriotic so this was less of a surprise.
“Plus,” she wrote at the time, “we’re cooking up something special for the RuPaulidays.” Looks like that has arrived! This isn’t the performer’s first time working with the brand though: in 1999 she appeared in a TV commercial for Old Navy tech vests. Jerry Hall also appeared in that spot.
The debut comes just hours after Ru unveiled her latest cover of Cosmopolitan UK.
