💅🏽 RuPAUL HOW HAS THE MOST EMMY WINS FOR A PERSON OF COLOR 💄

RuPaul is going to need to get a bigger trophy case!

During tonight’s televised ceremony for the 73rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards, the drag legend and the production team behind his beloved, eponymous reality competition, RuPaul’s Drag Race, took home the trophy for Outstanding Competition Program, beating out competitors The Amazing RaceThe VoiceTop Chef, and Nailed It! While this Emmy this Ru’s 11th trophy overall, this win is a special one, because it now makes Ru the most awarded person of color in Primetime Emmy history, beating out cinematographer Donald A. Morgan, who Ru tied with earlier this month at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony.

“Really, thank to all of our lovely children on our show from around the world,” Ru said when he, Michelle Visage, Gottmik, and Symone took the stage tonight to accept the award. “They are so gracious to tell their stories of courage and how to navigate this difficult life, even more difficult today. This is for you.”

He continued:

“And for you kids out there watching, you have a tribe that is waiting for you. We are waiting for you, baby! Come on to Mama Ru!”

This isn’t the first piece of Emmy hardware Mama Ru has taken home this year.

Last Sunday, he won the honor of Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program at the 2021 Creative Arts Emmys, marking the sixth time in a row Ru has won that Emmy category.

“I started in television 40 years ago on a public access station in Atlanta, Georgia. A little show called The American Music Show,” Ru said at the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony. “They were so kind to me to have me do my hard yards there years ago, and I want to thank them for being so kind to me and all the people in this business who’ve been kind. I’ve got to tell you, the sweetness and the kindness is what I appreciate the most today. In fact, the sweetness and the kindness are at the top of my list of human virtues. After that would be a big fat ass. Thank you so much for this award.”
